What if i have OSA?
You need to consult Sleep physician or Pulmonologist.

There are few treatment modalities.

Behavioural modification
Weight reduction
Avoid sedatives
Avoid alcohol
Avoid lying flat on your back.
These are usually effective as the only measures in mild cases.

Surgical options

About 40 - 50 % effective. More effective in reducing snoring. Certain procedures like UPPP, GAHM, Somnoplasty, Laser assisted UP, etc. are used. Helps more in mild apneics.

It is mandatory to repeat sleep studies following the surgeries to check the efficiency of the surgery.

Dental Appliances

CPAP

The most effective treatment of the lot. It can fix sleep apnea in any stage. This is a machine which blows air with source pre set pressure which would keep the airways splinted open (Pneumatic splint). It works in the principle of reverse of vacuum cleaner. This is not a cure but it is by far the most effective method to address the primary problem . This mask has to be applied every time during sleep. The pressure required would be titrated by the sleep physicians in the sleep lab.

We are sure that every one would know some one in their family who have most of the problem already listed.
